National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) has published the summary of the results of the FSHS survey carried out in spring 2023 (n=4,462 students) and the goals for advocacy work derived from the results for the FSHS, which provides health care services for students.
Based on the results of the FSHS survey commissioned by SYL and SAMOK, we have defined four pillars of influence and compiled information supporting and developing advocacy work.
The main priorities we identified are:
- More accessible and student-oriented FSHS
- Increased service needs and expectations from students
- More equal student health care
- Stable and adequate funding base
The updated FSHS targets are based on the valid SYL policy paper. However, the current perspectives that arose from the FSHS survey have also laid the foundation for updating the policy paper for the student’s health care in the next operating year of SYL (2025).
According to SYL, the role of the FSHS in student health care and the Finnish health care system is unequivocally important.
As a result of the student-centred development of its activities, the FSHS is able to act even more effectively as the best partner in the health of higher education students and as a specialist in student health care. This ensures that students can get high-quality and accessible care, which promotes their well-being and ability to study in the best possible way.
The updated objectives for FSHS influencing are available in Finnish here.
The goals have been drafted by Jesse Häyhä, Board Member responsible for health, well-being and equality at SYL in 2024, and Henri Kontkin, Social Policy Adviser.
