SYL publishes parliamentary election programme

The National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) has today published its programme for the 2027 parliamentary elections. The title of the programme is Education, growth and sustainability. It summarises in three words the future vision and values of university students on which the future must be built.

The title is also a story. Education is the foundation for the growth of individuals, communities, and society, and the economy cannot grow unless sufficient competence is available for its needs. Growth is now needed more than ever, as the challenges facing public finances and global problems will require solutions. Sustainability can only be achieved if we as a society have sufficient resources for both education and the economy to take the necessary measures to create a socially, economically, and globally sustainable future.

SYL offers this vision to the future Government and new Members of Parliament as a basis for the policy to be implemented during the next parliamentary term and expects the objectives to be realised in the next Government’s policy to secure Finland’s future.

The most important objectives of the programme are raising the level of education, facilitating the integration of international students, halting the indebtedness of students, promoting ability to study, and actions to assume global responsibility in climate and development policy.

“The young generation’s faith in the future will gradually deteriorate if nothing is done. We want to build a Finland that will not only survive the crises but will emerge from them as stronger and better educated. When we invest in higher education and student well-being, we sow the seeds for sustainable growth and resilience; it is our generation’s investment in the future of our country,” notes Petra Pulli, SYL President.

In the parliamentary elections, SYL is aiming to influence change that will help university students in an economically difficult situation. The programme boldly looks to the future and includes proposals on concrete measures that will help Finland return to its place as a leader in education level development and create a successful future for our nation.
