SYL’s General Assembly elected Petra Pulli as President for 2026

Petra Pulli, 28, from the Student Union of the University of Helsinki, has been elected President of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL). In SYL’s 2026 activities, Pulli emphasises influencing the approaching parliamentary elections. Pulli highlights that SYL must continue to have a strong impact in social debate and ensure that the student perspective is not overlooked.

“In the parliamentary elections, the most important duty for SYL and the student movement is to alter the way decision-makers and society view students. In public debate, students are often labeled as an unfortunate expense, even though in reality we are a major factor for Finland’s success,” says Pulli, who is studying educational psychology.

The general assembly of the National Union of University Students in Finland, which represents all of Finland’s approximately 150,000 university students, is being held at Aalto University in Espoo on November 14–15. In addition to personnel decisions, the meeting will decide on updating the political policy paper and SYL’s strategy.
