The SYL Board for 2026 has been elected

The General Assembly of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL), which represents the approximately 150,000 students at Finnish universities, has elected a new Board for 2026. The General Assembly also made decisions on next year’s Plan of Work and SYL’s finances.

The new SYL President is Petra Pulli, 28, from the Student Union of the University of Helsinki.

As well as the President, the General Assembly also elected six Board Members:

Aada Aho (TYY)
Marcell Berta (AYY)
Emilia Enroth (ISYY)
Laura Heino (TREY)
Viena Pentikäinen (HYY)
Vilma Sippola (OYY)

‘I’ll have a wonderful board by my side. This group is full of knowledgeable and capable students who are deeply passionate about improving the position of students. I’m really looking forward to working together for a better tomorrow for all students’, says the new President Petra Pulli.

The General Assembly of SYL has issued a statement calling for secure income for students. Students’ benefits must be reformed as part of the ongoing social security reform. They must be harmonized with other forms of basic security and moved under the governance of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health.

‘Financial security must not be an obstacle to education. Society has a responsibility towards students whose safety nets are already weaker. International students, in particular, must be more broadly included in the support system’, declares Pulli.

SYL’s General Assembly was held at Aalto University on Friday and Saturday 14–15 November. There are many posts on social media (instagram.com/syl_fin) about SYL’s General Assembly under the hashtag #SYLliittari.
