Press release 12 November 2020
The President of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) for 2021 is 26-year-old Annika Nevanpää from the Student Union of Tampere University.
The newly elected President stresses the importance of SYL’s 100th anniversary year in the activities in 2021. “These are critical times, and that’s why the entire student movement will cooperate closely next year, too. Thank you for electing me to lead this movement, I really appreciate it. The upcoming anniversary year will give us a great opportunity to make our voice heard more clearly than before, and we must also make the most of it, loudly and together,” President Nevanpää says.
Due to the current coronavirus situation, the General Assembly of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) will be held remotely on Thursday and Friday 12–13 November 2020. SYL’s General Assembly represents all of Finland’s close to 130,000 university students. The General Assembly not only elects the SYL President and Board for next year, but also decides on SYL’s Plan of Work and finances for 2021.
