SYL’s General Assembly elected Akseli Tiitta as President for 2024

Akseli Tiitta, 23, from the Student Union of the University of Turku, has been elected President of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL). In SYL’s 2024 activities, Tiitta prioritises influencing the politics of the current government and pursuing a constructive culture of dialogue on student-related matters.

‘We must find common ground with the decision-makers to improve the lives of students. Moreover, as our society is becoming more and more polarised, we must be constructive in our commenting and seek genuine consensus,’ says Tiitta, an economics and computer science student.

The General Assembly of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL), which represents the approximately 140,000 students in Finnish universities, is held at Tampere University 17–18 November 2023. The General Assembly will also make decisions on next year’s Plan of Work and SYL’s finances.
