Press release
October 15, 2020
This year, the General Assembly of the National Union of University Students in Finland will be held remotely for the first time.
Due to the coronavirus, SYL’s Board has decided that the General Assembly will be held remotely on November 12–13, 2020. This means that only the presidents and secretariat, accompanied by SYL’s Board and the required employees, will attend the meeting venue in Hotel Korpilampi, Espoo. The recommendations issued by the authorities will be followed at the venue.
The decision to hold the General Assembly online is based on current recommendations issued by the Regional State Administrative Agency. SYL is also seeking advice from the City of Espoo’s physician in charge of infectious disease control. “Given the uncertainty of the situation, we regarded holding the General Assembly online as a responsible alternative. The General Assembly is the highlight of the year and that’s why the decision was very hard. We try to do our best to raise the GA spirit also online this year,” says Tapio Hautamäki, President.
SYL will provide participants in the General Assembly and stakeholders with more detailed instructions on practical arrangements in the near future. As in previous years, you can follow the General Assembly live on SYL’s YouTube channel. A more detailed timetable for the General Assembly will be announced at a later date.
