SYL to hand over students’ greetings to the government spending limits discussion in a laundry bag

The National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) will hand over the student unions’ greetings to Minister of Science and Culture Antti Kurvinen at the House of Estates in Helsinki, Finland, on 5 April 2022. The exact time for this will be announced later.

The greetings will be handed over in a laundry bag, signifying the students’ so-called dirty laundry. The bag contains one bed sheet from each student union, featuring the union’s most central concerns.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has put immense stress on students. Science and education require significant investments. That’s why we want to remind the government that it’s time to finally take care of the students’ dirty laundry”, says SYL’s president Konstantin Kouzmitchev.

In addition to handing over the laundry bag, the students will be present at the House of Estates during the government spending limits discussion on Tuesday and Wednesday from 7am to 12 noon. The students can be recognised by their overalls and student caps.

SYL’s proposals to the government spending limits discussion are appended to the release.
