SYL’s General Assembly elected Lotta Leinonen as President for 2023

Lotta Leinonen, 24, from Oulu University Student Union, has been elected President of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL). The freshly elected president emphasises that in 2023 SYL must focus on advocacy in the parliamentary elections and subsequent government negotiations.

“It’s a great honour to be SYL’s President, and I’m really looking forward to next year! The most important thing next year is to make students’ voices heard, demand free education from the decision-makers, and finally proper investment in student well-being. SYL is there to back the students!” says bachelor of business administration Leinonen.

The General Assembly of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL), which represents the approximately 130,000 students in Finnish universities, will be held at Hotel Korpilampi in Espoo on 18–19 November 2022. The General Assembly will also make decisions on next year’s Plan of Work and SYL’s finances.
